How is CustomsClear AI different from ChatGPT or another general AI?
General AI models generate answers from whatever they absorbed during training — which may be outdated, incomplete, or invented. They don't retrieve facts; they predict plausible-sounding text. CustomsClear AI is built the opposite way. The legal content comes from an expert-curated library maintained by practising customs professionals: the exact regulations, measures, and rulings relevant to your question are identified and verified before the AI ever touches them. The AI's job is only to communicate that verified content clearly, in plain language. It never decides what the law is — experts and official sources do.
Why three specialised assistants instead of one general one?
Because classification, TARIC measures, and sanctions screening are different jobs with different legal sources, different logic, and different risks of getting it wrong. A single general assistant has to guess what kind of question you are asking before it even starts — and a wrong guess means a wrong framing of the answer. Each of our assistants is purpose-built for its job: it works from the curated sources relevant to that task, follows the workflow practitioners actually use, and nothing else. Narrow scope is what makes the answers reliable. And they work together — a classification from Classify AI feeds naturally into a TARIC or sanctions check.
Do I have to subscribe to each assistant separately?
No. Every subscription includes all three assistants — Smart Taric AI, Sanctions AI, and Classify AI — as they're designed to work together: classify a product, check its TARIC measures, screen the sanctions angle, all under one plan. The same goes for the free trial: starting it gives you full access to all three assistants for 14 days. One subscription, the complete compliance toolkit.
How do I know the answers are accurate and up to date?
Two safeguards. First, answers are drawn from an expert-curated library of official EU sources — not scraped from the web by an algorithm. Second, every answer cites and links the specific regulation it applies, so you can verify the legal basis, and how current it is, in one click before acting. The AI presents the content; it doesn't create it.
Can I rely on CustomsClear AI for actual compliance decisions?
CustomsClear AI is a decision-support tool for professionals — it gives you the applicable rules, rates, and restrictions with sources, in seconds. The compliance decision remains yours, which is exactly why every answer is fully referenced: you stay in control and can always verify the legal basis. It replaces hours of manual cross-checking, not your professional judgement.
TARIC is free. Why should I pay for this?
TARIC gives you raw data — useful if you know exactly where to look, how to interpret footnotes, conditions, additional codes, and geographical exclusions, and have time to track down the underlying regulations yourself (TARIC doesn't link to EUR-Lex) and check national taxes separately. CustomsClear AI does that work for you: ask in plain language and receive a structured, cited answer covering duty rates, quotas, certificates, restrictions, and national taxes in one place, with direct links to the latest versions of the regulations — in seconds instead of hours.
Which countries and regulations are covered?
All 27 EU member states for TARIC measures, with national taxes from member state databases progressively expanding across the EU. Sanctions AI covers current EU sanctions regimes, including dual-use, military end-use, and torture goods controls. Classify AI draws on classification regulations, BTI rulings, and CJEU judgements, and handles historical commodity code changes.
Does it cover national requirements, or only EU-level rules?
Both. Smart Taric AI covers all TARIC measures plus national import taxes (VAT and excise) from EU member state databases, with coverage expanding across all 27 member states — the current list of covered countries is shown in the assistant's sidebar. If a specific national measure isn't covered yet, the assistant tells you so.
Can it check whether a specific company or person is sanctioned?
Yes. Sanctions AI screens counterparties not only against current EU sanctions lists, but also against UK and US lists — one check, three sanctions regimes.
Can it check whether my goods or trade route are affected by sanctions?
Sanctions AI checks commodity codes and selected routes against EU sanctions, including dual-use, military end-use, and torture goods flags. You can also run historical checks to document what applied on a given date — useful for audits and internal reviews. The full scope of covered checks is listed in the assistant's sidebar.
What languages can I use?
CustomsClear AI supports the official EU languages — ask your question and receive your answer in the language you work in, with citations linking to the official legal texts.
What if the AI can't answer my question?
The assistants are designed to say so. If the curated library contains no verified content for your question, or it falls outside the covered scope, you'll get a clear statement instead of a guess. Ask Smart Taric AI "How do I bake a cake?" and it will reply along the lines of: "I can only help with specific TARIC lookups using a goods code and country of origin."
How does the free trial work?
Every plan starts with a 14-day free trial — full access to all three assistants, no credit card required. If you decide not to continue, nothing happens: there's nothing to cancel and you won't be charged.
What happens after the trial?
If the assistants have earned their place in your workflow, you subscribe — and because two weeks is rarely enough to fully embed a new tool into daily work, your first month is half price, just €15. From the second month onwards, the subscription continues at the standard rate and renews monthly. You can cancel at any time, effective at the end of the current billing period.
I already have an Individual or Team plan at CustomsClear.net. Do I need a separate subscription?
The AI assistants are included in your membership. Simply log in at customsclear.ai with your existing customsclear.net login details and start using them. No separate account, no additional payment.
Can my whole team use one account?
Plans are per-user, so each team member has their own workspace and query history. One person can purchase as many seats as needed and assign them to colleagues — handy for centralised billing.
Do you offer plans for larger teams?
Beyond the standard plans, we work with brokerages, consultancies, and enterprise compliance teams on volume pricing and onboarding. Reach out and we'll scope it together.
Does CustomsClear AI train on my questions or data?
No — we don't train AI models at all, on your data or anyone else's. Our assistants work from an expert-curated library of EU regulations and compliance content; the AI is used only to present the relevant information in clear language. Your queries stay your queries: hosted in the EU, processed under GDPR.
